Advocacy

Victim Advocacy

Victim Advocacy services are available to all victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, dating violence and sex trafficking within the Cherokee Nation reservation. These comprehensive services are designed to support victims during times of crisis and recovery. 

Services include:

  • Emergency Advocate Support: Immediate assistance provided to law enforcement responding to crimes.
  • Medical Support: Accompaniment to hospitals for medical care and support during sexual assault examinations.
  • Safe Housing Resources: Help finding emergency shelter, safe housing, or relocation to a trusted family member or friend's home.
  • Emotional Support: Advocates listen to victims' concerns and work to address their needs compassionately.
  • Safety Planning: Assistance in developing personalized safety plans for individuals and families, along with education on the dynamics of abuse, including the power and control model.
  • Referrals: Connections to counseling services and other necessary community resources.

Court Advocacy

Court Advocacy services are available to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, dating violence and sex trafficking.

These services may include:

  • Assisting victims with filing police reports and/or protective orders.
  • Explaining court procedures and helping victims prepare for court.
  • Accompanying victims to and from court appearances.
  • Notifying victims of upcoming court dates and any possible negotiated pleas.
